A Note on Chinese Translations

One of the challenges of managing the Fund’s programs is that virtually every document we deal with—proposals, letters, reports, emails—must be translated between Chinese and English, and vice versa.

The translations we receive are done by individuals with varying levels of fluency in the two languages, not by professional translators. This inevitably results in English words or sentences that may seem a bit odd. Differences in culture and the structure of the two languages further complicate the task of turning Chinese into English. Editing to avoid these issues would require a professional translator and would be prohibitively expensive.

We add translated documents to the website the way we receive them without additional editing. Our aim is to provide insight into the work of the Fund. We hope that you can overcome the language bumps along the way.
